Middle Crete, 10 km eastern from Herakleion.
Archaeological sites: The sanctuary of Zeus Thenatas, from Archaic Period Villa of the Lilies, from Minoan Period www.culture.gr: The first habitation in the area of Palaiochora (Amnissos) dates from the Middle Minoan period (-1900/-1800). The site is mentioned as a-mi-mi-so in the Linear B tablets. After a long period of abandonment from end of Roman Age, the hill was again inhabited during the Venetian occupation. |
